And Now: The bZ Woodland from Toyota

Woodland is a new 2026 model-year trim for Toyota’s all-electric bZ crossover/Toyota

The 2026 Toyota bZ will get an off-road-oriented Woodland edition in its lineup, the automaker says.

Car companies love to trickle things out – it gets them multiple days of exposure for what in many cases could have been a single announcement. The bZ Woodland s no exception. It was just two days ago that Toyota announced 2026 upgrades, including the new name, to what used to the the bZ4x electric crossover. At the time, it listed only two trim levels.

Now we’ve received notification that there will be a third, with even more horsepower, a bit less range, a little more ground clearance and a more outdoorsy look that the 2026 bZ XLE and Limited all-wheel drive trims.

Think of it as Toyota’s version of the Subaru Solterra, but with more horsepower Toyota and Subaru co-developed the bZ and Solterra, which are pretty much identical except for some exterior trim and upholstery design, their nameplates and powertrain and suspension tuning.

The 2026 bZ Woodland will deliver 375 horsepower, versus 338 in the other two bZ AWD trims, but only 260 miles of (Toyota estimated) range, versus up to 288 miles in the others.

The Woodland also gets 8.3 inches of ground clearance, versus 8.2 inches, plus a panoramic-view terrain monitoring system.

It also gets black fender cladding, an extra inch of height in the rear cargo area, standard roof rails and a 3,500-pound tow rating.

Weirdly, the bZ Woodland trim doesn’t come with all-terrain tires as standard equipment – they are an option.

Like the other 2026 bZ trims with all-wheel drive, though, the Woodland gets the X-MODE driving modes system, which enables drivers to select power delivery and brake control modes to meet various road conditions. The system includes a low-speed Grip Control mode that uses power modulation to improve off-road performance on loose and slippery surfaces. It’s like cruise-contrl for off-roaders and allows the driver to concentrate on following the trail without constant fiddling with the accelerator and brake pedals.

The bZ Woodland continues an outdoorsy theme introduced with the 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition – although RAV4 Woodlands do come with all-terrain tires – and special suspension tuning.
