Toyota still lags competitors in its EV offerings, but seems willing these days to try to catch up. It will add the C-HR BEV – battery electric vehicle – model to its compact crossover lineup for 2026.

The C-HR BEV gives shoppers a grand total of two EV models to look at when visiting Toyota dealerships.

The compact electric crossover revives a model that was discontinued in North America in 2023. This time it will be available only as an EV.

It gets a dual-motor, all-wheel drive powertrain rated at 338 horsepower. It is essentially the same system as in AWD versions of the all-electric Toyota bZ.

In fact, the 2026 C-HR BEV is a sort of tall-coupe styled version of the bZ and shares the same platform and many of the same features, although it has different packaging and is almost 7-inches shorter with a nearly 2-inch lower roof line.

It will use the same 74.1 kWh battery and has the same NACS charging system for Tesla charger compatibility as the bZ. It offers up to 290 miles of range – Toyota’s estimate – versus 288 and 299 miles for the two bZ trims with AWD.

The C-HR BEV will come in two trim levels, SE and XSE. It is slated to hit U.S. showrooms in 2026, with pricing to be announced closer to the on-sale date.

The SE comes standard with 18-inch alloys, LED lighting, 11-kW Level 2 charging, a power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, low-profile roof rails, power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, a 14-inch touchscreen, 6-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, dual wireless chargers, USB-C ports for both front and rear passenger areas, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking assist with automated braking, and Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 package of active safety and driver assistance features with a five-year no-fee trial subscription for safety and service related connected services. Royota measures thecargo capacity at 25.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats.

The XSE trim adds 20-inch alloys, upgraded upholstery with synthetic suede inserts, driver’s seat memory system, power adjustable front passenger seat, a digital rear-view mirror, panoramic-view camera, and adds lane-change and traffic-jam assist to the advanced driver assistance features.
