Volkswagen is teasing out more info about the upcoming 2025 ID.Buzz three row electric van that’s headed for our shores later this year.
The latest word since the modern micro van’s splashy North America debut almost a year ago is that three trim levels will be available initially. VW also has released some powertrain and features details. Still no word, though, on pricing, range or the on-sale date (most likey sometime in June or early July).
The automaker said the U.S version of the Buzz EV will be offered in Pro S and Pro S Plus trims plus a launch-only First Edition.
All will be equipped with a 91 kilowatt-hour battery pack and rear-drive versions will get a single, 282-horsepower motor while all-wheel drive variants will get two motors – one for each set of wheels – with a combined 335-hp output.
All there trims also will come with 20-inch alloys, a 12.9-inch infotainment center touchscreen, power sliding rear doors with powered sliding windows, a power tailgate, faux-leather upholstery, 30-color ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, and wireless App connection. Driver assist and safety tech includes VW’s IQ Drive with adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, lane change assist, hands-on “semi-automated” highway driving capability, and automated parking assist with a memory function.
Pro S models will be rear-wheel drive only and will be outfitted with a center bench seat plus captains chairs up front and a two-position third row, for a total of seven seats.
Pro S Plus versions will u the ante with both rear- and all-wheel drive variants, surround-fire camera system, head-up driver information display and a nine-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system. Rear devour versions will come with a second-row each seat while AWD models will get a pair of captain’s chairs in the second row, for a total of six seating positions.
The First Edition Buzz EV will get Pro S Plus features plus a two-tone exterior, model-specific wheels, cross bars for the roof rails, a panoramic gas roof and a “flex board” cargo-floor leveler that includes a pair of storage bins.
There are three interior schemes and VW hasn’t made it clear if all will be available with all color schemes.
In alphabetical order, they are:
- Copper, with brown seats with yellow piping, brown door inserts, and a washed wood-look dash
- Dune, with light grey seats with clay-colored piping, clay door inserts, and a light wood-look dash (this is the only interior for the First Edition trim)
- Moonlight, with dark brown seats with white piping, blue door inserts and a dark wood-look dash and black headliner.
Options include a hands free “Easy Open and Close” system for the sliding side doors and tailgate (standard on the First Edition); second row captain’s chairs for the rear-drive Pro S Plus; and, for all Pro S Plus versions, a panoramic glass roof, the flex board cargo system and a manually retractable tow hitch. There also will be variety of two-tone and monotone paint schemes.
